THINK ABOUT IT
Sixth in a
series of newsletters by former Local 150 Financial Secretary Ray Connors
ENOUGH IS
ENOUGH
It’s getting rather old having the United Engineers Party tell us
over and over again how much Bill Dugan has done to make Local 150
so great. No one man, not any man, can make that claim. Local 150
is great because of its membership. It has taken thousands upon
thousands of men and women to make this local great; men and women
who work hard, and stick up for one another and our local.
Unfortunately, Bill Dugan’s campaign, as well as his policies, are
succeeding in fragmenting the unity that has helped make us so
strong. He is turning district against district and member against
member. He has humiliated those in Dist. 6 by calling them
invisible and blaming them for the strong hold non-union has in
their area; an area where his own chief organizer in Indiana had
been working for years.
After
showing up with his entourage for a Dist. 5 meeting (only the second
time in 12 years that he had even gone to Dist. 5), he refused to
allow the members to speak and disgusted them with his pitiful
excuses for not even knowing what was going on in their area.
He has decided that all
pipeline work should be centralized and dispatched from Countryside,
no matter where that work is located. Apparently, he believes that
only those in Countryside’s offices are capable of handling
dispatch.
He and his
current administration have fired members who can’t or won’t promote
his agendas. He and his people spread lies and propaganda to cause
dissention among our brothers and sisters.
For years
he rarely left Countryside, (except, of course, to go to Maryland)
because he just didn’t want to be bothered. For those of you
outside of Dist. 1, think about how many times you have seen him in
your district in the last 10 years.
Joe Ward
and Team 150 believed Bill Dugan 9 years ago, when he met with the
officers and told them that it would be his last term, and that when
he retired at the end of the term, he would like the other officers
to back Joe as the next President-Business Manager. Every 3 years
after that, they believed him again when he said he would
retire at the end of that term. And each time, they vowed to
try to continue to do all that they could do for the membership even
though it was becoming increasingly difficult with Dugan’s
dictatorial leadership and refusal to listen to any new ideas that
would benefit the local. They continued on because they did not
want to see a division within the local; a division that is all too
often the result of a contested election.
Last year, however, Bill Dugan
made it clear that, not only did he intend to run yet again, but
that as long as he was alive he would be President-Business Manager
of Local 150. The time had come to say, “Enough is Enough”. Enough
of his lies. Enough of all of the endless excuses from an absentee
president who doesn’t know, or even care, about what’s going on in
the local. Enough of our local being run by a man whose main
concern is increasing his own personal wealth and power. Enough of
our local being “Dugan” country. Time for our local to be given
back to our members and become Local 150 country. THINK
ABOUT IT.
